Celebrating

Yesterday I turned 31 years old... I must admit I was a little bummed. Not at all by the number, but by the fact that I didn't have any real plans. John and I had talked about dinner, talked about a cake. But I was feeling a bit bummed by no party, no hoop-la. And then I woke up to find this in the kitchen....

...a simple handmade sign by my loving husband. It totally made my day! I felt at that moment like someone gave two craps about it being THE day. Normally, I don't care about celebrating anything on a certain day - any day will do. You know, I'm all for getting together for Thanksgiving on Saturday or usually having my birthday dinner on any night that's more convenient. But that sign really made me smile! :)

He had already sung to me as I got up out of bed. (He's the best!) Oh and did I mention that he got me two creme filled doughnuts for my morning too! (You're jealous, I know!)

My day was filled with simple (and appreciated) gestures of love. My in-laws stopped by to give me a card and a certificate for a spa pedicure!! Oh yeah baby! I was ready to do it RIGHT THEN.... but I have to make an appointment. ;)

My good friends Erin and Chris (and Ronin) sent me a GIANT box of organic food!! So COOL! It had avocados, bananas, nectarines, plantains, blackberries, corn, and mint. I'm sure I'll share some...hehehe...

I received so many loving phone calls and my facebook page was loaded with messages. I truly am blessed!

As for the more traditional celebration, John picked up a YUMMY cake for me. We ate Chinese takeout and watched a movie. And yes, I wore the crown...

Me making my birthday wish and blowing out the candles. (Please forgive the not-so-great photo, I hadn't planned to celebrate on film..... oh and the crown didn't fit my GIANT head!) :)
And the fun keeps coming... :) Tonight, we are going out for SUSHI! This is a big deal here because no body makes sushi. However one of our favorite restaurants, Austyn's, has a summer special of sushi Wednesdays with live jazz music! So we are trying it out. I can't wait!

...and, as if you weren't jealous enough already... my friend Crysta is celebrating her birthday on Friday and has generously allowed my birthday to interlope her party... so, yeah, MORE FUN to come!!!

and to think, I was worried about my birthday. I just need to -shut it-! :)
